You may look a while to find a better $11 white wine than this one. At this price point I expected a sweetish sipper, but the Ravines "Keuka Village" White (Finger Lakes, NY) 2012 $11 [Good+ to Very Good] is dry and vibrant, a very good food wine for "real" food at a summer picnic. Technically, the wine is slightly sweet, but with abundant fruit and acidity it tastes dry.
Pale lemon in color with some small bubbles, the aromas are tart and zippy, with lemon, green apple, and pear fruit as well as smoky/rubbery highlights. Medium bodied, full and round with a touch of spritz, this is a very well balanced wine. It has invigorating acidity. The flavors of lemon, tart green apple and juicy pear are generous, if not complicated. There is a broad streak of smoky/rubbery mineral that offsets the richness of the fruit. The finish is bracingly tart and salty with good length. This wine is an excellent buy. April 2013.
